El Golfo Restaurant, 8739 Flower Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20901
Celebrate the spirit of the Mexican revolution with Los Day Trippers' revolutionary infusion of the Beatles with contagious Latin beats: Cumbia, Mambo, Cha-Cha-Cha, Salsa, Latin Rock, Bolero, Danzón, Reggaeton and more. Join us for an evening of good food, drink and music at one of Silver Spring's best local music hubs, El Golfo. Dancing is encouraged. And for a little background on Cinco de Mayo: On May 5, 1862 in Puebla, Mexico, General Zaragoza and his outnumbered force of mostly mestizo (biracial Native/Spanish folk) and Native Zapotec fighters defeated 1,000 French troops sent by Napoleon III, who wanted to claim Mexico. The Battle of Puebla became a symbol of Mexican resistance during the short-lived French occupation (5-6 yrs). ¡Viva Mexico and viva la musica!
